What is an Intermodal Revenue Move?

Intermodal is defined as the movement of a container or trailer via more than one mode of transportation (e.g., rail + truck, ship + rail, or ship + truck).
This dataset tracks intermodal movements that involve the rail mode, including the movement of international containers, domestic containers, and trailers by rail. International containers are those used in overseas (ship-based) freight, domestic containers are used for overland shipments within a single country, and trailers refer to truck trailers loaded onto railcars (also known as piggyback or TOFC — Trailer on Flatcar — service).
